Club News – June, 2007

Not much has been going on with the local classic car scene since we all attended the Cajun Hot Rod Nationals in Sunset. It’s been so hot that not many people are wanting to get out and flex the horsepower muscle other than some quick drive to the store or such.

Rick Hicks wanted us to know that Eddie is still hosting a Show-N-Shine on the 2nd Saturday of each month at the Burger King on Jackson St. extension. This will give those of us who don’t mind the heat a chance to get out and clear the webs out the pipes.

Here is a list of other upcoming events:

  • Next club meeting will be July 17, 2007 at 6:30 at Logan’s.
  • Robbie and Mona Long are having a get together for Sheriff candidate Mike Slocum at their home on Thursday night, June 28th. Lots of good food and fellowship for everyone. Be sure to bring your old car. Call Robbie at 318-793-2075 or 318-481-9551 for directions.
  • Gardner Baptist Church is having a 4th of July celebration on Saturday, June 30th from 2:30 until…. This is their 3rd year for the car show. They will have games for the kids and all the food is free (hamburgers, hotdogs, and cokes). They’ve invited the club to come and have a good time. Directions: turn at the caution light off Hwy 28 West onto Hwy 121.
  • I’ll be posting a list of upcoming shows later on this week.

On a side note: I’m working on a new site dedicated to Cruisin’ in the South, whether it’s in your Classic Cruiser or your Sport Compact or your Custom Pickup. There will be a custom database of all Shows, Cruise-Ins, and Show-N-Shines in the South. There will be a a section that will allow clubs without their own site to create their own presence on the web, free of charge. Plus, much, much, more… If there is anything that you would like to see on the site, please let me know. Go ahead and bookmark the site at or
